The Mission of the PTA is three-fold:

to support and speak on behalf of children and youth
in the schools, in the community, and before governmental agencies and other organizations that make decisions affecting
children; -
to assist parents in
developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children; and -
to encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.
Purposes of PTA: -
To promote the welfare of the children and youth in home, school, community, and
place of worship. -
To raise the standards
of home life. -
To secure adequate laws
for the care and protection of children and youth. -
To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in
the education of children and youth. -
To
develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest
advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education.
GAHS PTSA BYLAWS
PTA IS THE LARGEST CHILD ADVOCACY GROUP Over
5.5 million members. The National PTA is 112 years old and is a volunteer advocacy and parent involvement association designed
to serve all its members. Virginia PTA has 1095 units and over 335,550 members.
PTA SPEAKS FOR ALL CHILDREN |
The sole purpose of the association is the welfare of ALL children at home and in school.
Our joint voice makes a difference with local, state and national agencies and legislators. |
Access to a Washington, DC, office of Governmental Relations. PTA provides a unified attack on major issues,
a unified push to improve legislation. Legislative Committees at state and national levels
working to promote laws that benefit and protect children. PTA
PROVIDES UNIFIED ACTION | PTA representation at
national and state conferences and workshops dealing with school/children issues. The local units extend their influence
beyond their neighborhood and help secure state and national action for the benefit of all children, not just their own. |
PTA cooperates with other state and national organizations concerned with family and child oriented programs.
